Start with these steps
- Open Watermark PDF, choose your document, and select a text or image watermark.
- Adjust opacity, rotation, size and position. Choose the pages that should receive the mark.
- Inspect different page layouts, apply the watermark, download the PDF and review the saved result.
Give the watermark one clear job
Use a short status label such as DRAFT for review copies, or an image when you need a recognizable logo. A long sentence stretched across a page can become harder to read than the content it is meant to identify.
A visible mark is not a substitute for an opening password or redaction. It does not prevent a recipient from reproducing the document. If the purpose is access control, use Protect PDF for the final version; if content must be removed, use an appropriate redaction workflow instead.
Choose text or an image with the right proportions
Text settings let you change the label, font and size. Use a font that suits the characters in the watermark, and inspect the rendered preview rather than assuming every script or symbol is available in the listed fonts.
For a logo, use a supported PNG, JPEG or WebP image within the limit shown beside the image picker. A transparent image can avoid a visible rectangular background, but inspect its light and dark details against the actual PDF. Changing image scale should preserve the identity of the mark rather than overpowering the page.
Balance visibility with readability
Start with a subtle opacity and increase it only enough to make the mark recognizable. Check small text, tables, stamps and diagrams beneath the watermark. A label that looks acceptable over a blank margin may be difficult to read over a dense chart.
Position presets place a single watermark; Repeat across the page uses a pattern instead. Choose deliberately between the two modes. When repetition is enabled, the position presets are disabled because a single-location setting would not describe the repeated pattern.
Inspect rotated pages and mixed layouts
Rotation changes the direction of the watermark, while the PDF itself can contain portrait, landscape or rotated pages. Use the page controls to inspect more than the opening page, especially if you are applying one setting across a mixed document.
Choose Current page for a one-page check, Page range for selected page positions, or All pages only when every page should be marked. A cover or signature sheet may need to remain unmarked. Scope uses the document positions in the viewer, not necessarily the numbers printed inside each page.
Keep an unwatermarked original and check the output
Applying a watermark creates a new PDF. Open the downloaded copy, inspect the selected pages and confirm that pages outside the selected scope remain as intended. Check that the mark is not clipped at the edge or too faint to notice.
Keep an original without the watermark so you can produce a clean final version later. Repeatedly adding a new watermark to an already marked download can stack marks on top of each other. Return to the clean source when changing a draft label rather than assuming a later export removes earlier content.
Check the finished file
- The watermark communicates the intended status or identity.
- Small text and diagrams remain readable.
- The correct pages are marked, including rotated or landscape examples.
- The downloaded copy is checked and a clean original is retained.
