How do I convert a PDF to a Word document?

SafePDFHub converts a PDF to a DOCX file in your browser. Choose editable text and optionally enable OCR for supported scans, or keep page appearance by placing page images in Word. Editable conversion can change formatting, so review the generated document before using it.

Before you begin. OCR supports nine languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Indonesian, Hindi and Marathi. OCR is off by default. Opt-in recognition attempts scanned tables and low-resolution pages with review notices; original graphics and table borders are not reconstructed in editable OCR output.

  3. STEP 03

    Review and download

Convert, review preservation and font notices, then download your Word document and optional conversion notes from the result page.

Check recognized text and page notices

Choose your goal first. Use Editable text when you need to change words. Choose Keep page appearance when preserving the page layout matters more.

Choose the Word document you need

Editable text

Keep selectable text in positioned text boxes. For scans, optionally enable OCR in one or more of nine supported languages. Low-resolution pages and tables are attempted with review notices. Editable OCR does not preserve all scan graphics or table borders; use OCR PDF when original appearance matters.

Text boxes preserve placement but do not reflow like ordinary paragraphs. Fonts may differ.

Keep page appearance

Place each PDF page in Word as an image, keeping its layout, tables, stamps and handwriting visible together.

Words inside the page image are not editable. The Word file may be larger than your PDF.
A LITTLE HELP, WHEN YOU NEED IT

Before you begin

A few useful answers before you start.

Can I convert only selected PDF pages?

Yes. Enter source PDF positions such as 1-3, 5, 8. The converter removes duplicates and follows the original PDF order. DOCX page positions can differ from source page numbers; download conversion notes for the mapping. Leave the range blank for every page.

What happens to form fields, annotations or hidden text?

Pages with rendered annotation or form artwork, clipped text, transparency, masking or other unsupported text painting may be preserved as images to avoid losing visible content or exposing hidden text. Image text is not editable. Interactive fields and digital-signature functionality are not retained in DOCX.

How long is my converted file available?

The result is held only in this browser tab while the tool remains open. Download it before refreshing or leaving the tool. Change conversion settings returns to the selected PDF without another upload. Convert another PDF clears the current result.

Will the Word text be editable?

Choose Editable text to extract selectable text or attempt OCR on scans in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Indonesian, Hindi or Marathi. OCR is off by default. When enabled, it also attempts low-resolution scans and tables, with review notices; pages without positioned recognized words remain images. OCR words are editable text boxes, not reconstructed semantic tables. Proofread recognized words and numbers. Keep page appearance produces page images with no editable text inside them.

Will the layout match exactly?

Editable conversion can change fonts, spacing, columns and tables. Review your DOCX in Word. Keep page appearance rasterizes each selected page at a bounded resolution; text inside the image cannot be edited. Thin details can soften. Custom fonts that cannot be safely embedded are identified in conversion notes.

Are my files uploaded?

No. PDF reading, OCR and DOCX generation run locally in your browser. OCR software and selected language assets load from this website. Your original PDF stays unchanged.

How large can my PDF be?

PDF to Word accepts files up to 200 MB with no fixed page-count limit. Processing runs one page at a time. Large scans take longer, and available device memory still affects completion.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

First use Unlock PDF with the document password. Conversion also requires permission to copy content.
